New Music: A Winged Victory For The Sullen
Posted by Nayt KeaneIn every genre of music, there exists super groups, and even though the hushed tendencies of ambient artists don’t scream “super” at the top of their lungs, A Winged Victory For The Sullen‘s self-titled release is vying for ambient album of the year. Adam Wiltze doubles as one half of the ground-breaking, chamber-ambient duo Stars of the Lid, while Dustan O’Halloran is very a well known and accomplished pianist and composer in the neo-classical underground. Together they create a poignant somnambulism, something Wiltze has been an expert at for a decade. With O’Halloran in the mix, the gentle coaxing of the keys is all the more stark and lovely, and it provides an exceptional guide for the lush symphonics that ease in and out much like the miracle of flight in slow motion. Adding to the beauty are guest cellist Hildur Gudnadottir and violinist Peter Broderick, making A Winged Victory For The Sullen a supreme ambient album indeed. These folks are the best in the world at what they do and this album is not to be missed.
Set to be released on September 12, 2011
