“America’s Funnyman” Neil Hamburger is in town fresh off his “Spring Value Tour” with Todd Barry, a low-energy tour that took the pair through the Midwest and the East Coast, laughing audiences into early slumber. Eight albums and various tours with punk and alternative bands has made Neil Hamburger something of an ironic indie icon–his throat-clearing, room-walking delivery a favorite among comedy nerds throughout the country. Dressed like a greasy lounge act and delivering the most painfully unfunny lines ever, Neil Hamburger is as funny as he is a conundrum. It isn’t often a comedian is so successful at drawing horrified laughter from an audience.
Last year, while featuring for Greg Fitzsimmons‘ brilliant, memorable show at Parlor Live in Bellevue, Brody Stevens was interrupted onstage by Fitzsimmons himself, who just poked his head out from behind the curtains and asked “what the hell is this? Is this even stand-up comedy?”
Brody Stevens is a high-energy juggernaut onstage. His approach is unique in that he, with his booming voice, delivers self-deprecating monologues about how fantastic he is. Never has a comedian derived such mileage from shouting “YES!” over and over the way Brody Stevens has. The man is unstoppable live.
His stand-up days will probably be fewer and further between because of the recent announcement of his new show on HBO, co-produced by none other than Zach Galifianakis.
