Matt Bellamy, singer and guitarist for Muse, has significantly lessened his enthusiasm for the conspiracy-driven “Truther” movement.

Bellamy stuck his neck out with questionable commentary back in 2006, saying “there was a document called ‘Project For The New American Century’, which allegedly divulged that, “we need a Pearl Harbor-level event so we can have an excuse to invade the Middle East.”

Those who self-label themselves “Truthers” are individuals convinced that the United States government played a pivotal role in the brainstorming, organizing and executing of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Lackluster films like “Loose Change” exemplify their modus operandi, which utilizes unsubstantiated claims and misinterpreted data to affirm their domestic suspicions.

In a recent talk with Metro, the rock frontman confirmed that his political opinions “are more nuanced now…I don’t believe that anymore, although there are lots of questions to be answered.”

Regardless of ideology, the impact Sept. 11 made on the United States and the world as a whole was seismic in terms of law, war and diplomacy.
