Macklemore & Ryan Lewis just debuted “Can’t Hold Us” on XXL. This is a bit different from the emotional, reflective string-laden songs that we’ve been getting used to. Not the complete party song like “And We Danced,” but it definitely has the party flair with Ryan Lewis’s synth-heavy layers. “Can’t Hold Us” is the first song where Macklemore toes the line as a rapper who raps about rapping. It’s a song where Macklemore talks about being a hustler in the rap game since the age of 14 with a four track tape recorder; he’s still hustling as an independent artist, and there isn’t a label in the world that can tell Macklemore LLC what to do. Okay?

Newest Macklemore & Ryan Lewis addition Ray Dalton shows his R&B chops with the hook, “Here we go back/ this is the moment/ tonight is the night/ we’ll fight till it’s over/  so we put our hands up/ like the ceiling can’t hold us/ like the ceiling can’t hold us.” In Macklemore’s words, “The validation comes from giving it back to the people.” The beats are good, addictive, poppy, and with a hint of rebellion in the lyrics, this is sure to be the next fan favorite.
