M83 Composing Soundtrack for Tom Cruise Film

M83 is writing the music for Tom Cruise‘s upcoming science fiction movie “Oblivion“.
Anthony Gonzalez, the principal force behind M83′s electronic-tinged shoegaze, has demonstrated an interest in sci-fi imagery and themes for some time. According to the songwriter, “I’ve wanted to do soundtracks for so long, and starting with such an ambitious project, especially in the sci-fi category, means a lot to me.”
M83′s last album was last year’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. This project ought to be a fairly radical departure from previous work, as he will be employing ”an orchestra and brass and maybe choirs.” His sonic touch should be especially captivating in the context of the film’s vast sci-fi world.
