Dinosaur Jr. leader, and infamously gnarly shredmaster, J Mascis formed an instrumental rock band Heavy Blanket with Pete Cougar and Johnny Pancake all the way back in 1984, but never recorded anything until now.
The songs on Heavy Blanket’s self titled debut were written in the 80s, but it’s only now that we’re hearing the fruits of their labor. Recently, the band has made the record’s first song, “Dr. Marten’s Blues” available for streaming. By the time you’re done having your ears, brain and heart turned into a big puddle of goop from the squealing, searing guitars and nimble bass you’ll want to know that the album is out May 8th on Outer Battery Records.
