K Records Announces Beat Happening Reissue

Timothy Grisham / February 28, 2013

The pioneering indie label K Records has announced a reissue of their first LP, Beat Happening‘s S/T debut.

After nearly a decade of being out of print, K has announced the reissue of Beat Happening (KLP001). A compilation of recordings by Bret, Heather and Calvin between 1983 and 1985. The limited edition pressing contains 23 songs, a compilation of: KLP001, the first Beat Happening 45, the Three Tea Breakfast cassette, the Let’s Together, Let’s Kiss, Let’s Sea compilation tracks and a few songs from Calvin’s personal vault.

The first Beat Happening album has been reissued before with bonus material, but never with this much. The band made music immediate music that inspired a generation of artists who’s ranks have sold millions of units. Something that Beat Happening never seemed inclined to do. As the first album released on K, it set a mood of irresistibly that has endured for twenty years.

The refurbished Beat Happening includes the original Greg Sage (the Wipers) produced sessions that comprised most of the original album and the first single (“Our Secret” / “What’s Important”). Five of the songs were recorded while Beat Happening lived for a period in Japan and then released as the Three Tea Breakfast cassette. There are also several songs that were originally included on various cassette compilations long out of print.
