Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) to Record New Album with Astronautalis
Posted by Bebe BeschBon Iver’s Justin Vernon will be collaborating with rapper Astronautalis on his next album.
Though it may be a shock initially, this experimentation is not so unfamiliar for Vernon, who enjoys collaborations amongst many other artists and genres in his side project, Gayngs, as well as being known for his work with Kanye West on “Lost in the World”.
The announcement isn’t even that high of a departure from Astronautalis’ catalogue, as the Minneapolis-based rapper doesn’t play by the mc rulebook; not only does he rap and free style, the musician sings full songs within his discography, adding an energetic rock element that is typically absent of most rapper repertoires.
Though each of the two musicians have impressive and exploitative pasts, their creative backgrounds merging together is bound to be epic. Astronautalis himself seemed baffled and excited by the recent announcement, based off of a handful of recent tweets:
Also, don’t go creating personal expectations for this Justin Vernon/Astronautalis pairing – Andy Bothwell (Astronautalis) told MTV “A lot of my fans are like, ‘Oh this is going to be amazing: Astronautalis rapping and Justin singing choruses.’ It’s not going to be that,” leaving everyone with even more lingering intrigue. A date for released material has yet to be announced, but we do know that together the two will form with Bon Iver’s drummer, S. Carey to create a for now unnamed band, with help from producer Ryan Olson, also from Gayngs.
