Singer/Producer How To Dress Well‘s debut album Love Remains was one of my favorite releases of last year. Tom Krell’s aesthetic of washed out, ghostly R&B was a strikingly emotional island in a sea of increasingly detached genre fetishism. Krell was later featured on yourstru.ly, covering the R.Kelly tune ‘I Wish,’ remarking that the song was “too real” and dedicating it to a friend of his that recently passed away.
The Just Once EP is a full tribute release to his friend, one Ryan Douglas Hutchon. It features four previously released HTDW cuts, reimagined with a symphonic suite and crisp remastering. If your biggest complaint about Love Remains was the dirty production, here’s what you’ve been waiting for. Just Once really brings out the elegiac beauty in HTDW’s songs.
The album is available here and part of the proceeds will go to MindFreedom.org, an organization devoted to helping those with Mental Health issues. Fans can buy either the four standalone tracks, or a limited edition vinyl that includes a handwritten letter from Krell and some bonus features.
