How Sawmill brings listeners into a foggy version of familiar dreams with “Windowsill”

Colette Pomerleau / January 29, 2021

“Windowsill” is our favorite release from Sydney solo artist, Sawmill. The single from his debut album, Back to the Old House transports listeners to a misty dream of familiar landscapes through its textural guitar work, softer vocals and consistent percussion. Nick McMillan, the artist behind the project, shares that lyrically “the song is about feeling introspective and unable to communicate in social situations.”

The album is a result of McMillan’s experimentation with lo-fi recording and mixing techniques in the summer from the last few years, where he could fully express his exploration into gentle lo-fi.
