Gone Country: Texas Country Part VI – Top Tunes Playlist
A weekly column about all things country.
Posted by Melissa DanielsTexas Country Part VI: Top Tunes Playlist
I’ll begin by saying first and foremost, this list is entirely subjective. But over the last seven weeks, Texas Country music has completely made a fan out of me. I’ve always enjoyed music that’s a little more raw and rough around the edges, so maybe it was fate.
Nevertheless, I’ve put together an extensive list of my favorite tracks. A lot of them are currently circulating the Texas Country airwaves, but some date back a few years, or more.
You’ll notice that the gentleman pictured above, Pat Green, is featured several times. Some of his records listed hail from his latest album, Songs We Wish We’d Written II. Green is easily one of my most listened to artists throughout the past several weeks. His career spans the course of 15 years and ten studio albums. He’s not only written music for some of the greats, but they’ve written for him as well. One of Green’s featured tracks below, “Even The Losers,” was written by Tom Petty. Needless to say, Green has had an amazing career, and his heart really translates into his songs. Which is often lacking in mainstream music.
Another band you’ll see quite a few tracks from is Cross Canadian Ragweed. This Yukon, OK band, unfortunately no longer together, produced some incredible music between 1994 and 2010. Their 2004 album, Soul Gravy, debuted at number four on the Billboard Country charts.
So without further ado, and in alphabetical order, please enjoy 83 of my favorite Texas tunes!
