Gone Country: Texas Country Part V – Songs About Texas
A weekly column about all things country.
Posted by Melissa DanielsOk, so not all of these records are token Texas Country… but I thought it would be fun to put together a list of some of the best country songs about Texas. These songs are both old and new, but they all have one thing in common, they’re all about life in the Lone Star State.
Enjoy!
1. If You’re Gonna Play In Texas – Alabama (Yes… I too find it ironic that Alabama is singing about Texas)
2. God Blessed Texas – Little Texas
3. That’s Right (You’re Not From Texas) - Lyle Lovett
4. Deep In The Heart Of Texas – Gene Autry
5. All My Exes Live In Texas - George Strait
6. Texas On A Saturday Night – Willie Nelson feat. Mel Tillis
7. Texas Flood – Stevie Ray Vaughn (ok… maybe I’m just moderately obsessed with the guitar riffs in this song… can you blame me?!)
8. El Paso – Marty Robbins
9. Texas Tornado – Tracy Lawrence
10. Amarillo By Morning – George Strait
11. Blame It On Texas – Mark Chesnutt
12. Texas Lullaby - David Allen Coe
13. 100% Texan – Kevin Fowler
14. The Yellow Rose Of Texas - Roy Rogers (film version)
Next week, I’ll be taking a break from Texas Country before my last installment, as I’ll be heading down to the California Rodeo Salinas for the sold out Alan Jackson concert. And of course, you know I want to tell you all about it! It’s quite the occasion as I’m venturing back to my hometown for a weekend of rodeo festivities that I’ve enjoyed since I was a little lady.
Nevertheless, we’ll be back to wrap up this little Texas Country adventure on August 1st with my “Best Of” list. It’s going to be a tough one. My Texas playlist is upwards of 60 tracks. Who knows, maybe I’ll just list them all. But until then remember… if you’re gonna play in Texas… haha!
