Fronted by one of the creators of HHFF and legendary singer of Pantera, Phillip H. Anselmo, they have decided to give all of us festival-goers a special treat and play an intimate day show at Midway’s on Sunday. I only hope the owners of Midway’s are aware of the madness that is about to ensue. Saying that show is going to get crazy, is an under statement.
The Housecore Horror Film Festival will take place next week (October 23-26, 2014) at Emo’s and Midway’s in Austin, TX. With headliners such as Samhain, Gwar, and the reunion of Superjoint Ritual plus three full days of horror movie screenings (tons of 35mm films), an appearance from the original cast of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and guest appearances from Randy Blythe and Brian Posehn this is sure to be an unforgettable weekend!
The festival will kick off with a free show at Dirty Dog on Thursday, Oct. 23rd. Australian thrash metal band, Hobb’s Angel of Death, will be headlining! It’s going to be a real treat to see this band because they rarely tour the U.S.
Friday the 24th is when the festival will really get going. There will be a day show at Midway’s and a night show at Emo’s, every day. The layout of the strip mall-type complex, where the venues are housed, really adds to the “festival” feel and is a perfect place to hold an event like this. Emo’s is at one end and the other end is capped by Midway’s with a winding corridor full of merch connecting the two. This makes it quite easy to make sure you catch every band and movie you want to witness.
Friday starts off at Midway’s featuring Brian Posehn, Cattle Decapitation, and Unearth.
A very notable part of Friday’s lineup will be the Australian obscure blackened death metal band, Portal.
They will be showing an exclusive one-time only live projection while they perform. Not only do Portal rarely play the U.S. but they have never had a live projection show outside of Australia. They have the ability to combine horror and metal seamlessly into their performance and will be a perfect fit for this festival. And if that wasn’t enough, Voivod will be rounding out the show.
There will indeed be no rest for the wicked as Saturday’s lineup will be brutal. The Midway’s lineup includes Decapitated, Macabre and Napalm Death. With a 15 minute breather, the evening set at Emo’s gets underway including Author and Punisher, Neurosis and GWAR. This will be a special evening as those who knew Dave Brockie, and those who were fans of Dave, will get to celebrate him as well as welcome Vulvatron to planet Earth and continue the legacy.
One of the most talked about events of the festival is the reunion of 90’s Sludge/Thrash band, Superjoint Ritual.
The weekend will wrap up at Emo’s on Sunday, October 26th with Warbeast, EYEHATEGOD and a special performance from Samhain and Danzig.
Not much has been said about what we have in store for this performance, but I can guarantee the audience will not be disappointed.
Aside from the music, there will be viewings of independant films, documentaries, music videos and classic horror such as a screening of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with a Q&A session after the movie with the original surviving cast members.
