Next weekend Pitchfork Music Festival 2012 is kicking off, with countless great acts. Some of the artists this year at Pitchfork Music Festival held in Chicago’s Union Park include Feist, Vampire Weekend, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, Kendrick Lamar, Grimes, Beach House, and many more. With the Saturday being the 2nd day of the fest, there will be a yet another lineup of impressive shows.
Here are some of SSG’s recommendations for Saturday:
Grimes will be closing out the night with her exceptional electro-dream touch. A perfect choice for the end of a long day, Claire Boucher, aka Grimes, will deliver an energetic performance along with what will most likely be the most captivating light show of the festival. Just recently breaking into a more mainstream following, she should live up to all expectations. Watch the video for “Oblivion” off her latest album Visions, out now on 4AD.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor reuniting after a 7 year hiatus will be a set most likely occupied by older souls but definitely a must see for any post-rock lovers. The Montreal natives should give a stunning live set, both with their instrumentation and visuals. The band has been said to be creating new music, so for anyone interested in hearing a taste of the new sounds, this will be an important show. Check out a new video of the band live after their reunion.
Danny Brown is one of those artists you just might have to see to believe. Performing last year at Pitchfork with Das Racist, Danny Brown returns with what will be an insane and energetic show. Although you may be taken aback the first time you hear his rhymes, possibly even offended, this man delivers harder than most rappers today. Don’t miss Danny Brown that night.
Sleigh Bells don’t quite have the mysterious buzz that they did when they first came out with their EP in 2009 or their debut Treats soon after, but don’t let that stop you from venturing over to have your head blown off by their sound. Your ears might be bleeding after the gnarly guitar riffs of Derek Miller and the head splitting shrieks of Alexis Krauss, but you’ll have a hell of a time.
Schoolboy Q is another newcomer along with friend A$AP Rocky that seems to be increasing in talent the more people listen. After dropping his latest album Habits & Contradictions Schoolboy Q has been proven his deserved spot in the rap game. Check out the video for “Hands On The Wheel” below.
