Erykah Badu, of “Call Tyrone” fame (she could’ve just ended with that and she’d still be vital), makes an appearance at Decibel Festival 2012 with her new project titled The Cannabinoids. The Cannabinoids is a five year project in the making, involving Badu collaborating with her longtime live band director R.C. Williams and various other Dallas area producers and DJs. From there, she organized the ragtag group into a living, thinking musical organism, one dedicated to expressing the future of digitalism in hip-hop, describing the transition in a way only the exquisite poet-songwriter ever could. It’s a close cousin to Shabazz Palaces’ frontier broadening approach to hip-hop
And if you don’t make the sure-to-be-sold-out show at the Paramount, there’s the afterparty to consider as well. Ms. Badu will be spinning as her DJ alter-ego, DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown at the brand-spankin’ new Q Club on Broadway. The afterparties aren’t covered in the normal Decibel Pass, an advance ticket will have to be purchased by any aspiring nighthawks.
