Google is honoring Bob Moog‘s 78th birthday with an awesome vintage synth player widget that allows the user to play, record, and share music. People are already starting to share their creative prowess with the player:
Since SSG Music is nothing if not a community of creative musicians and those that love them, Zebra Club reached out to us and suggested that we make an occasion of it since they’re such avid supporters of the DIY community!
We’re holding a contest to find the best original ‘Bob Moogle,’ a song made using the player. One grand prize winner will receive a $100 Zebra Club gift card, a Beach House and Father John Misty CD prize pack from Sub Pop, and one pair of tickets of the winner’s choice from Seattle’s own The Showbox, Neumos/Barboza, and The Crocodile through July 31, 2012 (no sold out shows or closed guests lists).
But wait! If you’re not musically inclined but you’d still like to play, share this post on Facebook and tag SSG Music for your chance to win a Beach House and Father John Misty CD prize pack from Sub Pop.
There are two ways to enter for the grand prize:
You can take a video of yourself using the player and send us the youtube link like the Van Halen cover above, or you can record on the youtube player and send us a link of what you recorded, like this: http://g.co/doodle/mqtz4v.
If you go the video route, adding additional instrumentation is allowed! This game just got a whole lot more interesting. Please send all submissions to email@example.com with the subject line “Best Bob Moogle.”
The contest ends May 24, 2012 at 3am PST – but the widget will probably only be up until midnight tonight! A group of SSG Music staffers will review and vote on the submissions purely based on how entertaining they are and announced May 29, 2012 at 12pm PST.
Go make some Moogic!
