Bryan John Appleby was a major highlight of the day. Before the set even started, fans were in the audience, yelling about how they had interacted with him via Facebook, asking for shout outs, demanding his attention. It was clear that fans were reaching for the “I was there” experiences as he is one of the Seattle buzz artists that came virtually out of nowhere continues to claim his place as a rising star.

Seeing him do his thing live is always a treat. As another singer/songwriter worthy of discussion, he’s defined himself uniquely: mastering the art of audio dynamics and fervent storytelling. His builds are signature. He’s designed songs that mirror the classical rise-and-fall composition–the gradual build to an explosion; the immediate withdrawal from climax, abrupt as a cliff with the chilling silence beckoning the listener to leap.

Appleby controlled his voice like a orchestra conductor; the band followed his direction closely—a well oiled machine.

Bryan John Appleby is the one to watch in Seattle. For many, this isn’t news.
