Ben’s Pick of the Week: Jookabox – Eyes of the Fly

Ben Tully / April 29, 2011

When you think of Sufjan Stevens’ Asthmatic Kitty label, you probably don’t think massive avant-pop, hip hop clusterf**k. Then again after Sufjan’s newest album, it’s best you throw all your preconceived notions out the window. Jookabox is the work of Indianapolis native David “Moose” Adamson and cronies, who claim this record is the last testament of Jookabox. A truly post-modern manifesto, The Eyes of the Fly sounds like a fly’s journey through a post-millennial version of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. In other words, pick a random moment on the record and the forecast calls for extreme trippiness with a high likelihood of extraneous WTF.

Jookabox’s fourth album in five years will be released on April 26th. It’s streaming here and the song “Drops” is available on Asthmatic Kitty for free download. Not for the faint of heart.
