Columbia Pictures made the odd decision to re-release David Fincher’s The Social Network in roughly 600 theaters across the U.S. tomorrow. The generation-defining film about the beginnings of Facebook made a splash last year despite a slow fall release; it no doubt helped Mark Zuckerberg clinch the title of Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2010.

Why is the decision odd? Other than the rarity of re-releasing any film, The Social Network is set for DVD release four days later on January 11. Does anyone else sense some Oscar-baiting in the works?

Regardless, you’ll want to see this one on the big screen for sure. No one buys DVDs anyways. It’s 2011, for Chrissakes.
