Just so you know, the name Hot Bodies in Motion is not a reference to the invigorating yet relaxing physical practice of Bikram yoga. The band hot Bodies in Motion gave themselves that name because of its explicitly sexual reference. They make “baby-makin’ mammal funk, laced with old-school blues roots” and want everyone to know. This band is simply overflowing with soul and sounds a lot like the Seattle equivalent of The Black Keys. Grab a listen of the Hot Bodies in Motion at The Tractor Tavern on November 23 along with Kris Orkowski and Smokey Brights.
Tonight, November 23, there is an emcee/beatbox battle hosted by VME at the Crocodile. Big Eyes are also concluding their tour tonight at the Funhouse with support from Criminal Code, Don Peyote, and Shakes.
A lot of the time great pieces of art cannot be created by force. Eric Bachmann from Crooked Fingers took a very extreme version of this approach in creating his latest album. Instead of simply waiting for the creativity to flow, he decided to deny it entirely. However, he is now back to making music. His latest album ‘Breaks in the Armor’ is a new musical expression of vulnerability. Come to The Crocodile on November 20 to catch Crooked fingers with Strand of Oaks and special guest Shelby Earl!
The video for Florence and the Machine’s song “No Light, No Light” has just been revealed! Watch it here.
Doing anything particularly fun tonight? No? Here are some ideas: live hip-hop jazz funk band Theoretics is playing at the Triple Door. You could also party 80’s style for a good cause at Showbox at the Market with Billy Idol Aid, a fundraising event for American Red Cross and Northwest Harvest.
Indie folk musician Hudson from Melbourne, Australia recently released the music video for his song “Against The Grain” seen below. The video itself was made by fellow Australian Jonathan Chong, a filmmaker/animator who goes by VJ Dropbear. Within days of the videos release, Hudson received recognition from CBS and has already doubled his fan base on facebook. The song is very catchy and can be downloaded for free on Hudson’s bandcamp. The video for “Against The Grain” is a visually stimulating stop motion piece composed of vibrant colored pencils and little else. Watch the video for “Against The Grain” below and be entertained!
On Sunday, November 13, The Schwa, a funky jazz band is playing at The Triple Door, and acoustic reggae rocker Trevor Hall is playing at Neptune Theater with support from Graham Wilkinson.
