Amy Winehouse/Tony Bennett Collaboration VideoPosted by Melissa Daniels
Today is a special day. It marks what would have been Amy Winehouse’s 28th birthday.
And instead of mourning, it’s time for celebration and a chance to keep the soul singer’s talent alive.
Today, Tony Bennett, the last singer to ever collaborate with the late artist, released the video for Amy’s last single “Body and Soul.” Peep below.
“The video is a unique collaboration between the legendary crooner and the beehive-sporting retro soul singer,” MTV said in an article on their website.
Winehouse passed away on July 23rd in her London apartment.
“Body and Soul” was recorded at Abbey Road Studios on March 23rd in London. All proceeds from the record sales will be donated to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
The footage you see below is nothing but bittersweet. Amy looks stunning, healthy and sounds incredible. She matches Bennett’s sound note for note with ease and elegance. She seems so present in each moment.
Oscar-winning cinematographer Dion Beebe (“Memoirs of a Geisha” & “Chicago”) shot the video footage which was initially indented to be used in an upcoming documentary on an 85 year-old Bennett.
The video has a sort of sexy smoothness to it. Between the way the artists interact ever so lightly, to the facial expressions Amy makes when she’s swaying in front of her mic, to the breathtaking cinematography. Mmmmm…
On his experience singing with Amy in studio, Bennett said, “We had a beautiful time recording together in the studio, and I knew that Amy was very happy with how she performed that day. I thought she was absolutely brilliant, and this recording truly captures the essence of her unique artistry. She was a rare talent.”
“Body and Soul” will be released on Bennett’s forthcoming Duets II. The album also features collaborations with Lady Gaga, Michael Bublé, Queen Latifah, Carrie Underwood, and John Mayer.
