New Jersey rockers Real Estate aren’t anyone’s best kept secret anymore. Their summery, wistful sound draws lazy but semi-accurate comparisons to in-state legends Yo La Tengo and The Feelies. Their 2009 self-titled record was a gem of a guitar pop anthem, and their 2011 follow-up Days didn’t disappoint, scoring a Best New Music note from Pitchfork. They’re what we like to call around here, “sneaky-good.”
Big Troubles also hail from Jersey, but subscribe to a bigger, slicker sound than their tour mates. Imagine a bit of the harmonious pop of Teenage Fanclub crossed with the kids-in-the-garage feel of Fountains of Wayne’s earlier repertoire and you’ve basically got the gist of what they’re after.
