Also Tonight: Abstract Rude
Posted by Sam BoydAwful Truth Tour featuring Abstract Rude, Musab, DJ Zo, Toki Wright, Suntonio Bandanaz @ Nectar Lounge | July 1st | 9 pm | $8 | 21+

How do you like your hip-hop? If you answered “bland” or “predictable,” there’s no reason to buzz over to Nectar Lounge tonight to see Abstract Rude and friends. Ab has been consistently fresh since the mid-90′s with his wacky, free-associative wordplay. Ten years ago he was working on classics with Haiku D’Etat (the L.A. based hip-hop collective composed of fellow Blowedians Aceyalone & Myka 9). Last year Abstract spit fire on “Rejuvenation,” featuring the 206′s own Vitamin D on the boards. He’s a true West Coast troubadour not afraid to sing his own hooks or go double-time mid-verse.
Ab is currently touring with Rhymesayers co-founder Musab, who’s promoting his new EP. The first song, “Lookin’ at Girls,” has Sab going all over a sample of Grizzly Bear’s “Two Weeks” sounding about ten times better than any other emcee who’s ever tried to rock a mic over the boogie-piano and Beach Boys-like harmonies. And for an extra dash of Minneapolis flavor, Toki Wright will open the show.
If you have four minutes and twenty seconds to spare, you should show the single from Musab some love. The track features production from Minnesota’s Orikal Uno and a spot-on verse from Abstract Rude.
