Pierced Arrows have played Portland 3 times this year (4 if you count New Years Eve 2011, which stretched past midnight) but if you’ve missed them you couldn’t be blamed. For one of the preeminent garage rock bands in the Pacific Northwest (They used to be a little band called Dead Moon though with a different drummer) they get surprisingly little cred in the mainstream press. Maybe it has to do with how often they play out. Sure, if they just disappeared for awhile and came back anew they’d most likely be lauded, but as it stands you can see them multiple times a year doing at 60 what most 20-year-olds try to do but probably never will. So if you missed them in February, March and April, you are being implored to go check them out in July.

Not much is known about the Needful Longings except for the fact that they have a damn good pedigree–being composed of ex-members of Guided by Voices, Dharma Bums, Crackerbash and Barnaby Woods–and they have some pretty lively rock and roll tracks over at their ReverbNation. Sounds like they’ll be rather raucous, and that’s not at all a bad thing.

Don’t, lead by Jenny Don’t, is a killer live act. Describing them is a might difficult, so I’ll let this quote from their bio speak for itself: “Think Siouxsie sharing a fifth of Southern Comfort with the Mermen in the back of Willie Nelson‘s tour bus while listening to the Wipers.”
