2013 SIFF Picks 5/26: The Attack, The Way Way Back

The 39th annual Seattle International Film Fest runs May 16 to June 9. With over 400 films, there’s a little something for everyone. But 400 is a HUGE number. So, lucky for you, SSG Music has sifted through the fixin’s to bring you a handful of film suggestions for each day of SIFF. Be sure to check back each day for the suggestions of the day ahead!

SSG Music SIFF Picks for May 26:

The Way, Way Back | 4:30pm | Egyptian Theater


The Way, Way Back follows 14-year-old Duncan over his summer break while he vacations with his mother at her new boyfriend’s beach house. The film features several well-known actors, including Steve Carell as the boyfriend, Toni Collette as the mother, and Sam Rockwell as Duncan’s manager at the water park. The lead character, Duncan, is played by newcomer Liam James who impeccably contrives an awkward teenager with little to no self-esteem but ends up learning a few things about himself over the course of his vacation.

What if you learned your spouse had just purposely killed multiple people with the intent to harm as many as possible? Dr. Amin Jaafari is faced with this dilemma when he discovers his terrorist wife blows herself up – along with many civilians. With multiple twists and turns, this action-packed film follows Jaafari on his search for the answers behind what happened, who brainwashed his wife, and who was really behind the attack. The film is based off of Yasmina Khadra’s bestselling novel of the same name.
